Possible trips in the surroundings

Hajdúdorog can be reached on a six-kilometre enjoyable cycling path. The town is famous for its Greek-Catholic church in Baroque style. If visitors arrive at Hajdúdorog at Easter, they can take part in the world-wide known matzoh-consecration.

Hortobágy, our first national park is easy to get to by car via Balmazújváros. Hortobágy is famous for its bridge called "kilenclyukú" ("bridge with nine "holes" ") and in the well-known wayside inn you might have a "refreshing" drink. The shepherd"s museum displays natural and ethnographic past of the "puszta" ("plain"). After having visited the museum you might admire different horse and other shows or you can use the "puszta" bus to go sightseeing.

Tokaj, which is known for its wine all over the world, is situated 30 kms far from our town. You can get there by car on a romantic road if you cross the river Tisza on the ferry between Tiszalök and Tiszatardos.

Nyíregyháza is only 25 kms far from Hajdúnánás ( in the direction of Kálmánháza). You can get there by car within 30 minutes but you can also travel by coaches running regularly. In the downtown you can visit its museum, you can walk in its pedestrianized streets and squares. Near the town, in Sóstó you can find the most famous outdoor village museum and the largest wildlife park in the northern part of the Great Hungarian Plain. Here you can spend even a whole day with taking delight in the "adopted" animals or taking a breath of fresh air when wandering on the paths of Sóstó-forest and you can stop for a while at the playgrounds with wooden toys.

Debrecen, our county town, the old "civis" ("civilian") town might also be a beauty spot in our list. It is about half an hour run by car and the trip takes an hour by train or by coach. When wandering about the beautifully reconstructed town in Piac ("market") street you can see the façade of the Hotel Arany Bika ("gold bull"), perhaps you want to relax and meditate and you drop in the famous Big Church on the pulpit of which even Lajos Kossuth made a speech. Behind the church you can find the Calvinist College amidst the walls of which so many famous Hungarians learned and in the museum of the college even a meteor can be seen. Not far from the Big Church you can admire Munkácsy"s paintings in the Museum Déri. The famous Csonka Templom ("incomplete church") stands in Piac street as well. If you have already enough of museum tours you can get on a tram and go to Nagyerdő ("big forest") where the Vidámpark ("amusement park") and the Állatkert ("zoo") provide unforgettable experiences to children and adults alike. Having finished your tour in Debrecen you can walk and relax in the magnificent botanical garden , which can be found behind the buildings of Kossuth University.
